Sustainable livelihoods provide people with the ability to earn an income with which they can meet their basic needs, as well as have the opportunity to break the cycle of poverty and thrive.

Donating to the sustainable livelihoods Waqf is a step towards social justice and human dignity as IBW uses the revenue from your funds to help improve people’s quality of life from health and education to housing and income.

The importance of livelihoods in Islam

Millions of people around the world suffer from a lack of resources and opportunities that would allow them to live in dignity and security. Many work hard, doing the best they can, only to achieve the bare minimum requirements for a decent quality of life. Inspired by Islamic teachings, the purpose of this Waqf is to help tackle this injustice through providing livelihood opportunities and support.

Allah says in the Qur’an, “Once the prayer is over, disperse throughout the land and seek the bounty of Allah. And remember Allah often so you may be successful” (Al-Jumu’ah: 10).

“It is He who made the earth tame for you - so walk among its slopes and eat of His provision - and to Him is the resurrection” (Al-Mulk: 15).

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “No-one has ever eaten food better than that of the work of his own hands, and the Prophet of God, David, peace be upon him, used to eat of the work of his own hands,” (Hadith, Al-Bukhari).
