Every year during the days of Hajj, Muslims observe Qurbani in order to honour the sacrifice that the Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was prepared to make in his devotion and submission to Allah.

The Qurbani Waqf is a charitable initiative that provides sacrificial animals such as cows or sheep during Eid al-Adha and distributes them to the poor. This annual programme aims to bring joy to families who are rarely able to enjoy meat, and reminds them that they are not forgotten.

The importance of Qurbani in Islam

Animal sacrifice is not just a religious ritual for Muslims but one that also serves an important social purpose. By sharing meat with others it is an opportunity to show gratitude and share the joys of Eid al-Adha together, fostering a feeling of solidarity and unity.

Allah says in the Qur’an, “So pray and sacrifice to your Lord alone” (Al Kawthar: 2)

“We have made sacrificial camels and cattle among the symbols of Allah, in which there is much good for you. So pronounce the name of Allah over them when they are lined up for sacrifice. Once they have fallen lifeless on their sides, you may eat from their meat, and feed the needy—those who do not beg, and those who do. In this way We have subjected these animals to you so that you may be grateful” (Al Hajj: 36)
