Palestine has a special status and sanctity among Muslims. It contains Al-Quds (Jerusalem) and Masjid Al Aqsa, the first qibla of Muslims, and the place from where the miraculous night journey of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) took place when he ascended to the heavens.
Palestine was also home to many of the prophets and it is a land of Waqf, endowed by the caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him).
The history of Waqf in Palestine
The forms of Awqaf in Palestine varied, and the most prominent Awqaf established there date back to the Ayyubid, Mamluk, and Ottoman eras. During those eras, lands, houses, caravanserais, and stores were built to support schools, libraries, mosques, hadith houses, hospices, hospitals, and even to prepare and equip cemeteries. The Palestine Waqf aims to provide many forms of support and assistance to the people of Palestine in general, and especially in Gaza, as well as to the people of Jerusalem and the residents of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.

This includes establishing water desalination plants, providing emergency food parcels, delivering medical supplies and supporting healthcare in hospitals, distributing winter aid such as clothes and blankets, sponsoring orphans, supporting children and providing access to education.
